By a confession we publicly give an account of our faith. In the course of history diverse documents were developed which summarize the doctrines of the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament, doctrines that are proclaimed by the Church and that build the foundation of the hope of all Christians.
These confessions are not simply old documents that were once meaningful in history. By them Christians all over the world are united because they all bear witness of their common faith.
Our pastors subscribe to the confessions because they recognize that therein the healthy faith is summarized in the best possible way. So, these documents still shape the Christian Church today.
Therefore the ERKWB submits to the Westminster Confession of Faith from 1647 and the Heidelberg Catechism from 1563 as their binding rule of faith.
